Disobedient Daughters, and the Importance of Leather Belts
Whenever Annie and I take the girls out to a restaurant, I have always make it a point to have my leather belt within easy reach. You won’t believe how handy it can be when one of them starts acting up or getting feisty.
In fact, Regina and I were out having lunch with my Mom once and I ended up having to pull out the belt on my youngest daughter.
The restaurant had no high chairs, just booster seats. Regina kept trying to stand up, and her feet were dangerously close to the edge of the bench seat.
I repeatedly asked her to sit down, I repeatedly told her to sit back down. Regina being who she is, would not listen. My patience was beginning to thin.
Finally after the 28th attempt at getting her to do what I was telling her, it was becoming very apparent that she was being a disobedient daughter. I had enough. If she’s going to push the envelope like this, then I’m willing to take some drastic measures as well. I closed my eyes to compose myself, my jaw tightened and I inhaled deeply through my nostrils as I slid my leather belt off…
And put it across her waist, under the booster seat and secured it—I made a seat belt. I still kept a hand nearby in case she tried to topple the seat. But she was no longer standing up. She had an easier, less distracted time eating her lunch, I was able to enjoy my own lunch.
Win Win!
What? What were you thinking I was going to do?
