I’m a bit of a clean freak, and today was bath day for Reg. It’s always a high point in my week when I get a chance to get crusted banana out of her hair. Plus I get to multitask. She’s playing in the tub, I’m wiping down the bathroom. We chat, all is good.
However, there’s always that thought bouncing around in the back of my mind,
“She pees in there…I know it.”
Of course, I give her a full-on wash and rinse after she has her bath time fun, but still…she’s playing in her own pee, I know it. I just know it! The odds are just too high. Warm water, unregulated bladder. It must happen, practically every time!
Of course it’s pretty much impossible to know for sure, maybe I could use a black light? Not even I would take it that far, plus a black light would reveal all the spots in the bathroom I’ve been missing. Those three monkeys covering their eyes, ears and mouth, that “see no evil, hear no evil speak no evil” thing is pretty convenient for times like this.
So, I drew the water, added the bubbles, tossed in her favorite boat, stripped her down and put her in the water.
The water was a little warmer than normal today, and she decided to hold off on sitting for a little while. That was fine with me.
But then…
I saw it. She peed. I watched a little tiny gush and saw it running down her leg into the bath water.
I grimaced a little, what to do, what to do. Drain the tub? Add fresh water? Ugh, sounds like a lot of work, and it won’t do the water bill much good. Plus, she’ll just pee in it again.
See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil…I slumped in resignation. Fine! Whatever! Go ahead and play in your own pee, like you probably do every time. I’ll just pretend I didn’t see what just happened. I’ll be giving you a real wash in about fifteen minutes anyway. I’m just going to start wiping down the bathroom sink here.
“Daddy.”
“Yes Hun?” I said over my shoulder,
“I Jink.”
“What’s that again?” I turned just in time to see her drink bathwater out of her rinse cup. “Noooooo!”
